Talks on Step Work: Talk1 - What is Unmanageability?

This is a collection of audio clips of talks on working the steps. This first audio clip of about 14 minutes is on the topic of What is Unmanageability?

Why do the steps?

This Video discusses the reasons for doing the 12 steps.

Registering For Online Courses

Here's How It Works. Watch the video to learn how to register for WSLB's Online Courses at the WSLB Academy.

Making a base for the future

I am getting on in age. It is pointless living as if there were endless years ahead.

The Poison of Organisations

Long ago, when I was all of 30-32, the then fledgeling RSS Bangalore approached me to join, saying I’d be made a member of the organising committee. I said NO then. I’ll say NO now. My ‘reasons’ are below, but they’re based on AA’s Traditions!

Registration for Online Courses

Please register here for the Online Courses.

ALL fields are mandatory. Enter ALL the SWS that you have done. Use the Add Row button to add as many rows as needed for the list of SWSs done and/or languages known.

Once you have registered and your application is accepted, and when the time to open the course comes, you will receive an email from this website informing you of the Login Name (not the one you use here, but a pseudonym) and password to be used at WSLB Academy where online courses are hosted.

The frustration of Step Sponsoring

A long time ago, I decided I will not be available for individual sponsoring, step 5 or 8-9 advise. I think it's time I desisted from 'engaging' with Organisers too. It's simply not worth my effort or time.

My First Step Workshop participation - a share

For the first time, I began to grasp the intensity of each step in a small way and its relevance to all areas of my life. We worked through each step, step by step over a 3 month period during the weekends and I was mandatorily required to take a sponsor as part of the workshop to work the steps outside the classroom.  Finally, I took a sponsor, thanks to this workshop!  I realised that by being in a structured step workshop, it is easy to follow the working of the steps in a planned way as detailed by the workshop leaders......

How to be persistent

The fact is, most of us get into action in fits and starts. Often enough, once a "short" break is taken, it turns into a long - and sometimes, permanent - break!

What is the trick that those few people use to be persistent? Does it mean they don't take breaks? Or is there something else at play?

Find out what I discovered.

The Curse of Unmanageability

"Your Life is Unmanageable," my Sponsor said to me. First, I ridiculed him. I asked, "managing 5 companies at the same time and you say my life is 'unmanageable'?" "My bank balance is handsome and you say my life is unmanageable?" "Are you out of your mind?" I asked.

That Feeling of Emptiness

Alkys and Addicts, like Co-Dependents, are very familiar with that feeling of emptiness. Obviously, not all can actually recognize it, let alone see it as a major issue in their lives.

As I came into the fellowship and attended my first full week of meetings, I was quite elated and fired up. I had found the root cause of my alcohol addiction. And better still, I thought I knew the way out.

But as weeks passed into months, not only did that excitement vanish, but I started to become bored with 'the same old stuff' being regurgitated endlessly.

What is Sponsoring?

In the fellowship, sponsoring is promoted as a way not only of helping others still struggling with the programme but also as a way to advance one's own recovery. This is not a new concept. The various roles of supporting others, known by different names around the world, have been around ever since the advent of civilisation.

However, in the fellowship, it has degenerated into a turf protection political game.

Here are the steps we took

Yesterday was my 58th birthday, and this is a great time for me to put on the 20-20 glasses and gain some hindsight on the journey of recovery so far. I was 32 when I joined the fellowship. What stood out in this review is a) abstinence precedes but isn’t the same as recovery, b) recovery, distinguished as the repeated application of the 12 steps upon all aspects of the practitioner’s life, exhibits ever broader contexts as the practitioner progresses in life, and c) the support [aka sponsorship] needs of the individual likewise grow in maturity.

The 12 Step Workshop

The 12-Step Workshop - or SWS for short is the entry-level programme for people to work the 12-steps of AA. Coached by AAs, for AAs and of AAs, the SWS is a 3-day programme.

The PWS

The Promises Workshop, or PWS for short, is for people who've maintained long-term sobriety and have completed doing at least two SWSs. They need to have also actually worked all the 12 Steps in their entirety.

Train the Trainer

WSLB believes in the AA tradition of "give it away to keep it". Hence a Train the Trainer (T3WS) Course.
